Slither through the mysterious lives of snake-fish! Eels are elongated fish found from shallow reefs to deep ocean trenches. European eels undertake epic migrations—spawning in the Sargasso Sea then traveling thousands of miles to rivers where they live for decades before returning to breed and die. Their life cycle wasn't understood until the 20th century.
🐍 Fun fact: European eels can survive out of water for hours by absorbing oxygen through their skin, and they can travel overland across wet grass to reach new waters!
